The audience are evacuated amid claims that a severe thunderstorm is on its way.

AceShowbiz - Beyonce and Jay-Z were forced to delay the start of their concert in New Jersey on Thursday, August 02 due to severe weather conditions.

The superstar couple was poised to take to the stage at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford for the first of two shows at the venue as part of their "On the Run II Tour".

However, following lively performances from support acts DJ Khaled and R&B duo Chloe x Halle, members of the audience were evacuated from their seats by event officials and advised to seek shelter in the inside area of the open-air venue amid claims that a severe thunderstorm was on its way.

An announcement posted to screens at the event, which MetLife Stadium also uploaded to their Twitter account, stated: "Attention please: We expect the weather situation to clear shortly. Please standby for further updates. Thank you for your patience."

Following a short wait and uncertainty over whether the "Crazy in Love" hitmakers would actually emerge, fans were invited back to their seats and the two-hour concert finally kicked off at 11:08 p.m, according to Billboard, over an hour later than previously scheduled.

Upon taking the stage, Beyonce apologised for the inconvenience and thanked the crowd for sticking around.

Buzzfeed reporter Amber Jamieson was at the concert and shared live updates of the situation.

"I'm at the Beyonce and Jay Z show at MetLife waiting for them to appear onstage and a fire chief just told us a thunderstorm is coming and the entire crowd has to evacuate to cover right now," she explained to her followers, before adding: "So we've all been sent to the inside of the stadium for this storm, apparently coming in 15 (rain started as we got undercover). Super unclear if Bey and Jay will come on or cancel this whole gig."

After receiving confirmation that the show would go on, the journalist noted that fans were in for a late night, but conceded that the alternative of Beyonce being struck by lightning would be "a lot worse".

Other fans also appeared to take the delay in their stride, with one Twitter user jokingly writing: "Please forward my mail to MetLife Stadium. We all live here now. #OTRII."
