The winner of the annual album award will be unveiled at the Polaris Gala in Toronto on 17 September.

AceShowbiz - Singer Daniel Caesar and pop bands Weaves and Alvvays have made the short list for the 2018 Polaris Music Prize.

Caesar is nominated for his Freudian album, while Wide Open and Antisocialites earned Weaves and Alvvays their respective nods, alongside the likes of Pierre Kwenders (MAKANDA at the End of Space, the Beginning of Time), Partner (In Search of Lost Time), and U.S. Girls (In a Poem Unlimited).

Arcade Fire and the late Gord Downie were among the acts to feature on the initial long list, released in June, but missed out on mentions as the 40 contenders were cut down to the final 10.

The winner of the annual album award, which celebrates the best in Canadian music, will be unveiled at the Polaris Gala in Toronto on 17 September.

Lido Pimienta won the Polaris Music Prize last year (17).
