AceShowbiz - Drake has bid a fond farewell to basketball ace DeMar DeRozan after he was traded from the rapper's hometown team, the Toronto Raptors, to the San Antonio Spurs.
The shock news emerged early on Wednesday, July 18, as DeRozan was sent to the Texan team as part of an exchange for Spurs star Kawhi Leonard, and Drake, who serves as the Raptors team ambassador, took to Instagram hours after the announcement was made to share a heartfelt message for both players.
Alongside a photo of the two athletes in action on the court, the God's Plan hitmaker first addressed his "brother" DeRozan.
"I want to say 10 million thank you's (sic) on behalf of YOUR city," he began. "You are a fixture in Toronto forever and you gave everything you had. Through your leadership we had the most exciting years in franchise history. I am grateful to have witnessed your combination of skill, persistence, and loyalty from the same seats every night. Thank you for being an incredible captain and an even better friend."
Drake then turned his attention to Kawhi as he welcomed the new Raptors signee to the franchise.
"To Kawhi...we look forward to a this new chapter and we welcome you to the most intense and supportive city in NBA basketball!!!" he posted. "You have always been a poised clinical warrior and I can't wait to see how Toronto inspires your fight. Let's Go Raptors."
