The 'Smash' alum has pulled out of several performances of her Broadway show 'Waitress' following the death of her father.

AceShowbiz - Katharine McPhee has pulled out of several performances of her Broadway show Waitress following the death of her father.

The former Smash star dropped out of starring in the musical over the weekend, July 14-15, so she could fly to Los Angeles for a "family emergency", and on Monday night she revealed to fans that her dad Daniel had passed away.

"It is with heavy heart that I share that my sweet sweet Papa left this earth yesterday morning," she wrote on Instagram, besides a picture of her with her dad. "We as a family are completely heartbroken and devastated. He was my biggest fan, my biggest champion, always telling me to 'Give em hell kid!' He was so kind and caring and made sure we knew how much he loved us. Not sure my heart will ever be the same."

The 34-year-old explained she would be back on the Broadway stage next week and is hoping her dad, who missed her making her Broadway debut in Waitress, would be watching her from "up above".

"Thank you to all my friends who've been so loving and supportive these last 48 hours. I love you Papa. I already miss you so much. This hurts," she concluded.

I can’t believe I’m even writing this.... But it is with heavy heart that I share that my sweet sweet Papa left this earth yesterday morning. We as a family are completely heartbroken and devastated. He was my biggest fan, my biggest champion, always telling me to “Give em hell kid!” He was so kind and caring and made sure we knew how much he loved us. Not sure my heart will ever be the same. I’m so sad he missed my broadway debut. But when I return to the stage next week I hope he can watch it in peace and from up above. Thank you to all my friends who’ve been so loving and supportive these last 48 hours. I love you Papa. I already miss you so much. This hurts. 💔

Katharine took over the lead role of Jenna in Waitress in April and was expected to stay for just over two months, but her run was later extended until 19 August.

Her father's death comes just weeks after Katharine announced she was engaged to music producer David Foster. The 68-year-old reportedly popped the question during a vacation in Capri, Italy in early July.

This will mark her second marriage - she previously wed Nick Cokas in 2008 and their divorce was finalised in 2016.
