The 'Shape of You' hitmaker beats out the likes of Little Mix, Coldplay and Calvin Harris for the title.

AceShowbiz - Ed Sheeran was the most played artist on U.K. radio and TV and in pubs and clubs in 2017, according to music licensing company PPL's annual chart.

The singer/songwriter beat out Little Mix, Coldplay, and Calvin Harris for the title, while his Shape of You was the most played track of the year, ahead of Clean Bandit's Symphony collaboration with Zara Larsson and Castle on the Hill, another Ed hit.

Meanwhile, his third studio album, Divide, was the biggest selling album in the U.K. last year, with combined sales of 2.7 million.

The news comes as Sheeran prepares for a four-night Wembley Stadium run in London later this month.
