Joel King, who also worked on several Prince music videos, is co-organising the event in Henderson, Minnesota, which boasts a street named Purple Rain Road.

The birthday event on 7 June will include bus tours of Purple Rain movie locations, a screening of the 1984 film and performances by local musicians and "secret guests", according to the Mankato Free Press.

Prince died of an accidental overdose in April, 2016.
