The plans come after both picked up trophies at the 2018 Ivor Novello Awards.

AceShowbiz - Lionel Richie is lining up a studio session with Ed Sheeran after the two stars became fast friends at the Ivor Novello Awards in London on Thursday, May 31.

The Hello singer told The Sun he has plans to work with Ed after both picked up trophies at the annual songwriters' prize ceremony.

"The next big project for Lionel is - I shouldn't say too much - but it involves Ed Sheeran," Lionel says. "I was a little dumbstruck meeting him tonight. There's Ed over there and he's looking at me and I'm looking at Ed. It's a mutual admiration society.

"The first thing you say is, 'Do you think you might want to...?’ And the answer was, 'Of course'".

The two stars simply have to find time to work together: "He's on tour and I’m on tour but it will happen," Richie adds.

Ed was named Songwriter of the Year and also took home the award for Most Performed Work (Shape Of You) at the 2018 Ivor Novello Awards ceremony, while Lionel won the Music Special International Award.
