'I had to try 63 things on, I was just like, 'This is painful,' ' she recalls.

AceShowbiz - Alicia Silverstone was left feeling exhausted on the set of Clueless because of all the costume changes.

The cult film helped launch the careers of Alicia, the late Brittany Murphy, and Paul Rudd, and told the story of rich, fashion-obsessed teen Cher Horowitz.

The bold fashion choices are synonymous with the 1995 feature, with the yellow plaid skirt suit worn by Cher one of the standout fashion moments. While fans lapped up the clothes, Alicia herself wasn't so keen.

"I remember being so exhausted with the costume fittings because I just, I wore, I didn't have any fashion sense at all at that age, and it only took, I mean, it took recently that I became interested in clothes," she recalled to ABC. "At the time, jeans and a green T-shirt, I was good all week long. So, when I had to try 63 things on, I was just like, 'This is painful.'"

But for head costume designer Mona May, the film was a dream come true.

As well as the plaid suit, which Stacey Dash's character Dionne also wore in a black and white version, Cher also helped to popularise berets, tailored shirts and jackets, and chic layering.

"When Amy (Heckerling, writer and director) gave me the script, it just blew my mind. How fascinating these characters were and it was all about setting trends and making something new," Mona smiled.

"The clothes were, they were their own star. They were the main character of the movie and (Mona) did such a beautiful job," Alicia added.
