Titled 'The Midnight Hour', the new album is a jazz and hip-hop fusion project the pair first conceived back in 2013.

AceShowbiz - A Tribe Called Quest star Ali Shaheed Muhammad has joined forces with composer Adrian Younge for a new collaborative album.

The Midnight Hour is a jazz and hip-hop fusion project the pair first conceived back in 2013, when the musicians began working on the song Questions, which ended up being sampled by Kendrick Lamar for the rapper's untitled 06 | 06.30.2014 track from his 2016 release untitled unmastered.

They have now revamped the song with CeeLo Green and shared it online as the first single from the joint album, which also features vocals by Raphael Saadiq, Questlove, Marsha Ambrosius, and the late Luther Vandross, among others.

"It is a joy to create The Midnight Hour with our friends who were willing to take the musical journey with us to make something special that is a departure from the status quo," Muhammad and Younge tell Rolling Stone. "The Midnight Hour represents the black idiom in regards to jazz, hip-hop and cinematic soul for a new generation."

The album is set for release on 8 June, nine months after Muhammad played his final show with his surviving A Tribe Called Quest bandmates Q-Tip and Jarobi White.

The trio bowed out as a group at Britain's Bestival event in September (17) following the death of Phife Dawg. Their final album, We Got It from Here...Thank You 4 Your Service, hit retailers in November, 2016, eight months after the rapper's passing.
