Rob Reiner reveals in 'Always at the Carlyle' that the actor sent a piglet to his hotel room at the Carlyle Hotel in New York.

AceShowbiz - Tom Cruise once ordered a pig be delivered to director Rob Reiner's room at The Carlyle hotel in New York.

The revelation is one of many featured in Matthew Miele's new film "Always At The Carlyle", which takes an inside look at the Big Apple hangout that has long been a refuge for celebrities and very special guests.

Director Miele, who spent eight years getting to know staff and quizzing them about their favourite celebrity stories, reveals there were so many tales, but Cruise's piglet story is his fondest - and weirdest.

"I asked the hotel staff about the weirdest request they ever had, and one person said, 'Tom Cruise ordered a pig for Rob Reiner!" Miele tells WENN. "She added in that they dressed up the piglet in a tuxedo.

"It was this crazy little thing but we didn't want to expand any further so we left it rolling over the credits."

Unfortunately Cruise, who used to be a guest at the hotel, doesn't feature in the film.

"I knew Tom had frequented the place over time for a handful of visits enough to be a regular, but we didn't reach out to him because The Carlyle told me they hadn't seen him in a bit," the filmmaker adds. "We wanted to get the guests that were more current and really religiously stay (there), so I'm not sure Tom fit that."

But George Clooney was very generous with his time.

"He used to drive around years ago with his (singer) Aunt Rosemary (Clooney), who used to play The Cafe Carlyle," Miele adds. "Before George became George Clooney, the movie star, he was a little more anonymous. In the 80s and even before that he was going to The Carlyle, so he had a real sense of it before he started staying there.

"He gets paid for endorsements of different things but this was something he really cared about that he wanted to do and his time was precious but he spent the time and he wouldn't stop. He was really effusive about the place and we were having a good time with him."
