AceShowbiz - Gary Oldman and Antonio Banderas are reportedly in talks to star in Steven Soderbergh's new movie based on the Panama Papers scandal. The 'papers' made headlines last year when millions of files from the database of Panama-based law firm Mossack Fonseca were leaked online, exposing the financial records of many public figures and revealing how clients could use the company to evade taxes by setting up offshore accounts.
Scott Z. Burns has written a script based on Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Jake Bernstein's "Secrecy World: Inside the Panama Papers Investigation of Illicit Money Networks and the Global Elite", and now it looks as if Soderbergh will produce and direct "The Laundromat".
It is unclear what roles Oldman and Banderas will play if they sign on. Bosses at streaming service Netflix are reportedly looking to acquire the film.
A number of celebrities were linked to the Panama Papers scandal, including Jackie Chan, director Pedro Almodovar and U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron. Most of them came forward to deny any wrongdoing.
This isn't the movie about the scandal - German journalists Frederik Obermaier and Bastian Obermayer, who wrote "Panama Papers: Breaking the Story of How the World's Rich and Powerful Hide Their Money", are also developing a film with bosses at Netflix, according to Deadline.
