AceShowbiz - Marvel Studios has officially commenced production on Avengers: Doomsday, the fifth Avengers installment and the 39th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The project kicked off filming in the United Kingdom in April 2025, marking a major milestone for the highly anticipated superhero epic.
The studio unveiled an extensive cast during a marathon five-and-a-half-hour live stream event, confirming 27 characters set to appear in the film. The lineup notably includes many actors connected to the X-Men franchise alongside members of the Thunderbolts and Fantastic Four, while only a handful of traditional Avengers characters are featured. This diverse ensemble will unite to face off against the villainous Doctor Doom, portrayed by Robert Downey Jr.. The cast also boasts heavy hitters like Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Pedro Pascal, among others.
Avengers: Doomsday is directed by the returning duo Anthony and Joe Russo, who previously helmed Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. The screenplay is penned by Stephen McFeely, with Alan Silvestri composing the score. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige continues in his role as producer. The film, which was originally titled The Kang Dynasty before undergoing story revisions, is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026.
This film expands the MCU’s roster by integrating multiple superhero teams, including the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Thunderbolts, creating a complex narrative tapestry. The limited presence of classic Avengers hints at fresh storylines and possibly sets the stage for the upcoming Secret Wars saga. The ensemble cast and creative team behind Avengers: Doomsday signal Marvel’s ambition to deliver a sprawling crossover event that could redefine the franchise’s future direction.
