His casting arrives after former main cast member Clayne Crawford, who portrayed Martin Riggs, was fired from the comedy drama due to his alleged bad behavior on set.

AceShowbiz - Actor Seann William Scott is heading to TV to lead the new season of "Lethal Weapon" following the departure of original series star Clayne Crawford. Crawford, who portrayed Martin Riggs, the character made famous by Mel Gibson in the original movie franchise, was fired from the comedy drama last week (ends May 11) following reports of his bad behavior on set, and producers at Warner Bros. Television scrambled to find a replacement so they could move forward with a third season.

Now "American Pie" star Seann has been tapped to co-star with returning actor Damon Wayans for the FOX network show.

The new job marks Seann's first as a TV regular, but he won't be taking over the role of Riggs - instead, he will play a new character, who is partnered with Wayans' veteran detective Roger Murtaugh.

"Seann is a fantastic addition to this already amazing cast," Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn shared in a statement. " 'Lethal Weapon' is packed with action, drama and pure fun and we can't wait to see Damon and Seann together on screen. [Show developer] Matt Miller, his incredible team and everyone at Warner Bros. have been tremendous partners, and we're thrilled to bring this show back for another season."
