His wife, Dreka Gates, takes to Instagram to announce the cancellation as well as apologize to fans of the '2 Phones' rapper.

AceShowbiz - Kevin Gates had to cancel a string of dates on his post-prison tour due to travel restrictions. The hip-hop star, real name Kevin Gilyard, was released from an Illinois prison in January after serving nine months of a 30-month sentence for felony gun possession.

That punishment, relating to an outstanding 2013 warrant, was handed down last spring, days after the "2 Phones" MC had completed a six-month term behind bars in Florida for kicking a woman in the face at one of his shows.

Gates had been gearing up to return to the stage at a number of shows in Texas this weekend, but his wife, Dreka Gates, has since declared the gigs will no longer be going ahead. She took to Instagram on Friday, May 04, to share a video message with fans, apologizing for the change of plans.

"The Illinois Department of Corrections has prevented Kevin from leaving the state of Illinois," she said in the clip. "He isn't even allowed to come home to California where we live. Since he was released in January, he has not been able to come home not one time (sic)."

Gates and his team have been trying to resolve the issue to allow him to get back to "doing what he loves to do," but in the meantime, he has been using his spare time to work on new material. "He's in the studio going like, really, really hard right now," Dreka continued. "So, you guys will hear from him... really soon."

Gates' next scheduled performance isn't until July, when he is booked to hit the stage at the Common Ground Music Festival in Michigan.
