The teaser glimpses several chilling scenes, giving a taste of the upcoming 8-part series based on Gillian Flynn's novel of the same name.

AceShowbiz - Upcoming HBO thriller "Sharp Objects" has dropped its first chilling teaser ahead of season 2 premiere of "Westworld". The eerie teaser gives the very first look at "Arrival" star Amy Adams, who plays a journalist named Camille Preaker on the limited series based on Gillian Flynn's novel of the same name.

Set to a haunting score, the teaser sees Adams' Preaker driving back to her hometown, where her dark past is kept. "Ma says she saw a ghost once," says someone, who is presumable Preaker's younger sister, in voiceover. "I'm not scared of them ghosts. Are you?"

The teaser later glimpses several chilling scenes, giving a taste of the upcoming 8-part series from Entertainment One and Blumhouse Television. They include a scene where Preaker, donning a white bed gown, finds herself in the middle of the woods. Toward the end of the teaser, Preaker is seen drowning herself in a bathtub before waking up in a huge shock while someone whispers in voiceover, "It's not safe here."

"Sharp Objects" follows Preaker, who returns to her hometown after being discharged from a psychiatric hospital and given an assignment into two homicides. As she investigates, dark events from her past begin to surface and haunt her.

In addition to five-time Oscar nominee Adams, the thriller series stars Patricia Clarkson, Chris Messina, Eliza Scanlen, Elizabeth Perkins and Matt Craven.

The new series is driven by a familiar name behind the success of Emmy-winning "Big Little Lies". Jean-Marc Vallee, who directed the first season of the Nicole Kidman-starring series, helms the entire episodes of "Sharp Objects". Vallee also serves as executive producer along with veteran showrunner Marti Noxon, Flynn, Adams, Blumhouse Productions' Jason Blum, Charles Layton and Jessica Rhoades as well as Vallee's collaborator Nathan Ross.

"Sharp Objects" is set to premiere sometime this July.
