AceShowbiz - %cElton John% just tapped several popular artists to contribute to his tribute albums. Titled "Revamp" and "Restoration", the albums will be released on April 6, just days before a Grammy tribute concert to John airs on CBS. Both albums will feature covers of the singer's hits, which he produced with Bernie Taupin.
"We have two completely different albums; 'Revamp' being the pop one and 'Restoration' being the country one," John says in a statement. "God, we have so many great artists doing our songs, it's quite incredible."
"Revamp" will feature songs covered by %cMary J. Blige%, %cAlessia Cara%, %cColdplay%, %cMiley Cyrus%, %cFlorence and the Machine%, %cLady GaGa%, %cThe Killers%, %cMumford & Sons%, %cPink% and %cLogic%, %cQ-Tip% and %cDemi Lovato%, %cQueens of the Stone Age%, %cEd Sheeran% and %cSam Smith%. John says of the album, "I wrote out a wish list of people that I would love and asked them. To my surprise most of them said yes, and we have quite an astonishing eclectic crew."
Meanwhile, "Restoration" will feature songs covered by country artists such as %cVince Gill%, %cMiranda Lambert%, %cLittle Big Town%, %cMaren Morris%, %cBrothers Osborne%, %cChris Stapleton%, %cDon Henley% and %cDolly Parton%. John reveals that the album is Taupin's project. "He came up with an astonishing list of country performers both new and legendary," he notes.
"It's always a huge compliment when an artist loves your song enough to take the time and effort to rework it," John continues. "As songwriters, Bernie and myself are thrilled when the singers we admire and respect as much as those on 'Revamp' & 'Restoration' chose to add their own unique twist in the process. It means that our music is still relevant and ultimately that our songs continue to reach new audiences. We're humbled and thank them all for their generosity."
Taupin adds, "Because of our love of all kinds of music, we're not stuck in one genre. From day one we borrowed from everything that's good about American music--whether it's blues, country, gospel, pop, pure rock--everything got thrown in the mix. I think that's why our music over the year has been so varied."
The album art for "Restoration" is created by Taupin, while the album art for "Revamp" is based on the Terry O'Neil photograph of John.
