'Paul, Apostle of Christ' Gets Trailer, Jim Caviezel Is in Talks for 'Passion of the Christ' Sequel
Movie

Caviezel, who stars as Luke the Physician in the upcoming biblical drama about Saint Paul, confirms that he's in negotiations to reprise his role as Jesus Christ in the sequel to the 2004 movie.

AceShowbiz - "Paul, Apostle of Christ" has unleashed its first official trailer ahead of its U.S. release on March 28. Making its way out via USA Today, it highlights the interactions between Luke the Physician, who is later known as Saint Luke, and the apostle Paul, later known as Saint Paul.

Jim Caviezel stars as Luke who visits Paul, portrayed by James Faulkner, in prison as the latter awaits his execution under Emperor Nero. As Luke fights to get Paul's messages heard by believers outside the prison, they are accused of plotting an escape.

Paul is seen schooling Luke about love when outraged people want to overthrow the government with violence. "No!" Paul says, strongly against the plan for revenge. "Why not?" Luke asks. "Love is the only way," Paul replies, before adding, "Where sin abounds, grace abounds more."

In "Paul, Apostle of Christ" which is directed by Andrew Hyatt, Paul suffers alone in a Roman prison, awaiting his execution under Emperor Nero. Mauritius, the ambitious prison prefect, can hardly see what threat this broken man poses. Once he was Saul of Tarsus, the high-ranking and brutal killer of Christians.

Now his faith rattles Rome. At great risk, Luke the Physician visits the aged Paul to comfort and tend to him-and to question, to transcribe and to smuggle out Paul's letters to the growing community of believers. Amid Nero's inhuman persecution, these men and women will spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ and change the world.

Olivier Martinez stars as Mauritius, while John Lynch and Joanne Whalley portray Aquilla and Priscilla, who are Paul's companions.

To USA Today, Caviezel explains why he agreed to star in the film after turning down a lot of Bible stories since 2004's "The Passion of the Christ". "It's like, 'We want to change this, pull that out,' " he says. "I'm like, 'This book has been around a lot longer than any of us in Hollywood. I have the faith to believe it's still good for us now.' That's one of the greatest things about (Paul). You don't realize it, but it's actually scriptural."

Caviezel also confirms that "Passion" sequel is happening and he's in talks to reprise his role as Jesus Christ. Mel Gibson, meanwhile, is in negotiations to direct and presumably produce.

"I won't tell you how he's going to go about it," he teases about the story being developed by Gibson. "But I'll tell you this much, the film he's going to do is going to be the biggest film in history. It's that good."
