Darren Criss' Andrew Cunanan Gets Brutal in New 'Versace: American Crime Story' Red Band Trailer

Toward the end of the trailer, things get gruesome as the killer of Gianni Versace is featured butchering a man while his friend watches it in horror.

AceShowbiz - Prior to its premiere, "The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story" has got a new red band trailer, which is quite rare for a TV show. The two-minute-and-five-second trailer offers more insight into the upcoming new season of the FX anthology series hailing from Ryan Murphy.

"It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation," Andrew Cunanan (Darren Criss), Gianni Versace's (Edgar Ramirez) killer, declares in the opening of the trailer. It later shows a scene of the famed fashion designer meeting Andrew at an opera.

"I'm very good with older men," Andrew tells a woman during what seems like a job interview. His remarks definitely serve as a contrary to the scene which flickers after, in which Andrew is seen attacking several older men brutally.

Andrew introduces himself as "a fashion student," a "married" man, a man who works in "finances" to different people, but says to Gianni that he "worked for my father on his pineapple plantations in the Philippines." Then, things get gruesome as Andrew is featured butchering a man while his friend watches it in horror.

"This world has wasted me," says Gianni in the trailer, to which his killer responds, "And yet this world also made you, Mr. Versace, into a star." Andrew continues saying, "You're not better than me. We're the same. The only difference is that you got lucky."

Based on the book "Vulgar Favors: Andrew Cunanan, Gianni Versace, and the Largest Failed Manhunt in U.S. History" by Maureen Orth, the 10-episode second season will center on the assassination of Gianni Versace in Miami in July 1997. Serial murderer Andrew, who killed five people that year, committed suicide eight days later on a house boat.

Also starring Ricky Martin as Antonio D'Amico and Penelope Cruz as Donatella Versace, "The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story" will premiere on January 17 on FX.
