DC's 'Flashpoint' to Be Helmed by 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' Scribes After Ben Affleck Turned It Down

'Spider-Man: Homecoming' screenwriters John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are reportedly in negotiations to direct the Flash solo film starring Ezra Miller.

AceShowbiz - It looks like DC's "Flashpoint" is close to getting directors. According to a new report from Variety, "Spider-Man: Homecoming" screenwriters John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are currently in negotiations to direct the Flash solo movie, which stars Ezra Miller in the lead role.

Warner Bros. has not commented on the report. The studio was initially courting Ben Affleck to serve behind the lens, but the "Justice League" star passed on the gig. It seems like the studio is eying a comedic tone for the stand-alone superhero flick by tapping John and Jonathan who are known for penning comedy movies.

John and Jonathan were the writing duo behind 2011's "Horrible Bosses". They also wrote and directed 2015's "Vacation", before penning last year's "Spider-Man", which earned more than $880 million worldwide. Their next movie is "Game Night", which they also wrote and directed. Starring Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams, the film, which blends the thriller/comedy genres, is set to hit theaters across the nation on February 23.

"Flashpoint" has been in limbo since director Rick Famuyiwa left in October 2016 due to "creative differences." Previously, Seth Grahame-Seth, who had written the script and was attached to direct, also dropped out of the project. While looking for Rick's replacement, the studio decided to take the script in a different direction, with Joby Harold having turned in a new draft.

No release date has been set just yet for the Flash solo film, but the studio's next DC movie to hit theaters is Jason Momoa's "Aquaman" on December 21, followed by "Shazam!" on April 5, 2019. No start date is announced for "Flashpoint", too. Its star Miller is currently busy getting ready to shoot "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald", the second installment in the "Fantastic Beasts" film series.
