Spielberg will return as executive producer for a reboot of the classic cartoon series, which has received a straight-to-series commitment at the streaming service.

AceShowbiz - "Animaniacs" is back on small screen. Hulu is teaming up with Amblin Television and Warner Bros. Animation to make a brand new version of the 1990s cartoon series. The streaming service has given the reboot a two-season, straight-to-series order with the new episodes set to air in 2020.

The show centers on Wakko, Yakko and Dot, who have finally found a way to escape from the Warner Bros. water tower after being locked away for a long time, and they will be unleashed to wreak havoc on the city. Fan-favorites Pinky and the Brain will also return to make appearances in each episode.

Steven Spielberg will return as executive producer of the rebooted version, with Sam Register, president of Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Digital Series, and Amblin Television co-presidents Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank also serving as executive producers.

"We cannot wait to work with Steven Spielberg and the entire Amblin and Warner Bros. teams to bring more sketches, catchphrases, songs, and laughs from the 'Animaniacs' to kids and adults everywhere," Craig Erwich, SVP of content at Hulu, said in a statement. "Now one of the most beloved, inventive and funny animated franchises in history, 'Animaniacs' and its cast of witty characters can live on, on Hulu. This marks yet another big move for us as we continue our efforts to be the No. 1 streaming destination for premium animated content."

The project marks the first Hulu original series for families. Under the deal, Hulu will also be the exclusive streaming home to the complete library of all 99 episodes of the original series, as well as spin-off series "Pinky and the Brain", "Pinky, Elmyra and the Brain", and the complete "Tiny Toon Adventures" collection.

Spielberg said, "I am so pleased and proud that 'Animaniacs' will have a home at Hulu. Together with Warner Bros., we look to bring new audiences and longtime fans into this wild world of Yakko, Wakko, and Dot. I am also excited that the full library of 'Animaniacs' and 'Tiny Toon Adventures' episodes are included in the deal."

The original "Animaniacs" debuted on Fox Kids in 1993 and moved to the WB in 1995, before ending its run in 1998. It became one of the most popular animated series for children. The show set the record for most Daytime Emmy Awards in the field of Outstanding Achievement in Music Direction and Composition for any animated series, winning three times.
