'Spider-Man: Homecoming' Sequel May Feature Gwen Stacy With a Twist
Movie

A leaked audition tape suggests that Marvel is casting Gwen Stacy for the untitled sequel starring Tom Holland.

AceShowbiz - The upcoming "Spider-Man: Homecoming" sequel may introduce another familiar character from the comic books. According to reports, the untitled sequel will feature one of Peter Parker's famous love interests, Gwen Stacy, with a twist.

Omega Underground has obtained a leaked audition tape suggesting that Marvel is casting Gwen Stacy for the upcoming movie. In the video, an unknown French actress named Louna is auditioning for the said role.

Should the video be authentic, this means Marvel will tweak Gwen's origin. Instead of an American with blonde hair and blue eyes, the character, who was portrayed by Emma Stone in Andrew Garfield-starring "The Amazing Spider-Man" movies, will likely be depicted as a foreign exchange student who may be born in France or Russia and will transfer to Peter's school.

While it's a surprising twist, Marvel has been trying to deliver plot twists with its new "Spider-Man" franchise, most notably with the casting of Zendaya Coleman as MJ, although she's not the Mary Jane whom fans have known from the comic books. Despite sharing the same nickname, Zendaya's MJ is a new high school character named Michelle, who is Peter's nerdy classmate.

It appears that Zendaya's MJ will still be romantically involved with Peter at some point in the franchise and Marvel may set up a love triangle storyline by adding Gwen into the fold. In the original comics, Gwen and MJ are vying for Peter's heart, but Gwen bites the dust at the hands of the Green Goblin.

Whatever the plot Marvel is preparing, there's still a long way to go before another Spider-Man solo movie arrives. "Spider-Man: Homecoming 2" is scheduled to hit theaters on July 5, 2019 and filming is reportedly set to begin in June in Atlanta. Tom Holland will return as the titular superhero, with Jon Watts set to be back behind the lens.
