The 'Partridge Family' star died on Tuesday at 67 years old after rushed to a Florida hospital last week.

AceShowbiz - David Cassidy, a former teen idol who starred on the 1970s sitcom "The Partridge Family", has died. The retired actor and musician passed away on Tuesday, November 21, days after it was reported that he had been hospitalized for multiple organ failure. He was 67.

Through his rep JoAnn Geffen, his family issued a statement which read, "On behalf of the entire Cassidy family, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, our uncle, and our dear brother, David Cassidy. David died surrounded by those he loved, with joy in his heart and free from the pain that had gripped him for so long. Thank you for the abundance and support you have shown him these many years."

Cassidy was rushed to a Florida hospital last week and his condition had been worsening since his admission, according to TMZ. He needed a liver transplant and was also suffering from kidney failure. "It's looking grim," a source told the site on Saturday.

Geffen also said of Cassidy's condition at the time, "He is conscious and surrounded by family and friends, nothing is imminent and we are taking it day by day." She added that doctors were keeping Cassidy "as well as they can until they can find another liver."

Best known for his role as Keith Partridge on "The Partridge Family", where he starred alongside stepmother Shirley Jones, Cassidy later had a great career as a musician, releasing twelve studio albums. Among his biggest hits were "Cherish" and "How Can I Be Sure" which he recorded during the series' run.

Struggling with his image as a pop star, Cassidy had numerous personal problems. He battled substance abuse issues and entered rehab in 2014. In February 2015, he filed for bankruptcy. In October the same year, he was charged for hit-and-run accident that took place in Florida in September. His license had been suspended after he pleaded guilty on a DWI charge following his 2013 arrest in New York.

Earlier this year, he revealed that he had dementia. "I was in denial, but a part of me always knew this was coming," he told PEOPLE of his diagnosis, after witnessing his grandfather struggle with the disease and his mother "disappear" from the disease herself.

He decided to stop touring to concentrate on his health and happiness. "I want to focus on what I am, who I am, and how I've been without any distractions," he said at the time. "I want to love. I want to enjoy life."

Cassidy was married and divorced three times. He has daughter, actress Katie Cassidy, from a relationship with Sherry Williams Benedon, and a son, Beau, with his third wife Sue Shifrin.
