AceShowbiz - Finally! FX has announced the release date for new installment of Ryan Murphy's anthology series "American Crime Story". Taking to the show's Twitter account, FX announces that "The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story", which stars Edgar Ramirez, Darren Criss and Penelope Cruz, will premiere on January 17, 2018.

"The date is set. The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story premieres January 17 on @FXNetworks. #ACSVersace," the account announces on the micro-blogging site. It also shares a new poster featuring Darren's Andrew Cunanan standing in front of Gianni Versace's (Edgar) front gates of his lavish mansion in Miami.

Alongside the premiere date, FX has unveiled a brand new teaser for the second season of the critically-acclaimed series. Edgar's Gianni opens the psychedelic video as he is seen lounging beside a lavish indoor pool.

Accompanied by a haunting score, sociopath and serial killer Andrew is featured swimming his way to the fashion designer. The teaser concludes as Andrew, who shot Gianni to death in 1997 on the steps of his Miami Beach mansion, creepily lurks behind Gianni's lounge. "A troubled path. A dangerous obsession. 'The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story' premieres January 17 on FX. #ACSVersace," so the account captions the 30-second video.

In the 10-episode series, Penelope portrays Donatella Versace. Joining the cast is Ricky Martin, who plays Gianni's longtime partner Antonio D'Amico.

Based on the book "Vulgar Favors: Andrew Cunanan, Gianni Versace, and the Largest Failed Manhunt in U.S. History" by Maureen Orth, the second season of the FX anthology series will center on the assassination of Gianni Versace in Miami in July 1997. Serial murderer Andrew, who killed five people that year, committed suicide eight days later on a house boat.

"Versace" initially was planned to air as season 3 of "American Crime Story" following "Katrina". However, the latter was pushed back from an early 2018 to late 2018 premiere, making "Versace" fill the season 2 slot.

Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Brad Falchuk, Alexis Martin Woodall, Dan Minahan and Tom Rob Smith executive produce the season alongside Ryan. Ryan also directed the premiere episode, with Tom writing the script. The series is produced by Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions.
