While Ellen's tweet sounded like a joke between two close friends, some deemed that it was insensitive in light of sexual harassment allegations against Harvey Weinstein. Many responded to the tweet with the hashtag #doublestandard.

Piers Morgan commented, "If a man made this joke, Ellen would lead the cries of 'SEXIST PIG!' " Actor Michael Rapaport similarly argued, "Imagine if Cam Newton or any other Man sent out this tweet & photo." He added, "If a DUDE said this the World would stop."

Another critic compared Ellen to Harvey Weinstein, writing, "Ellen DeGeneres sexually harasses Katy Perry. Wonder how she interviews female employees? Hollywood = #Weinstein." Another commented, "WTF? Ellen Weinstein? @TheEllenShow totally unacceptable."

"I have lost respect for Ellen after seeing this. What a terrible example to set for so many young girls who look up to Ellen. Sad," read another comment. Another added, "For Ellen's next trick, she'll explain to us all how objectifying women is a bad thing."

Previously, Ellen dedicated the monologue of her Thursday, October 19 show to discussing sexual misconduct. "This is not a male thing or a female thing. It is not a Hollywood thing or a political thing. This is a human thing," she said at the time. "And it happens in the workplace, it happens in families, it happens all over the world, and we are all the same."
