The studio is reportedly eyeing to get Spike Lee to sit at the helm for the upcoming Nightwatch movie.

AceShowbiz - Sony's Spider-verse continues to grow following the successful relaunch of the superhero wallcrawler. According to a new rumor, the studio is now developing a spin-off that will introduce Kevin Trench or better known as Nightwatch.

During a new episode of Meet the Movie Press, Jeff Sneider reveals that Ed Ricourt (Now You See Me) is hired to write treatment for the character. Oscar-nominated director Spike Lee is reportedly eyed to sit behind the lens for the project.

Nightwatch is a relatively unknown character in Marvel comics. He was first introduced in "Web of Spider-Man" #97. Trench started his vigilente adventure after stumbling across a dead man wearing a suit. When he took off the costume and unmasked the corpse, he learned that it was actually an older version of himself.

The Nightwing movie is the latest addition in a series of Spidey spin-offs. "Venom (2018)" which centers on Spidey villain Eddie Brock is developed with Tom Hardy attached to play the lead role. It's scheduled to come out on October 5, 2018 in the United States.

A standalone film that will unite female characters in Spider-verse is also in the works. Silver Sable and Black Cat are confirmed to be part of the female-centric team. They will reportedly be joined by Spider-Woman. The untitled Silver Sable and the Black Cat project will open in theaters on February 8, 2019.

Sony teamed up with Marvel to reboot Spider-Man after they called off "The Amazing Spider-Man 3" starring Andrew Garfield. Tom Holland was picked to play a new Peter Parker. He was introduced in "Captain America: Civil War" before swinging solo in "Spider-Man: Homecoming".

Spidey sided with Team Iron Man in "Civil War" and was mentored by Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark in "Homecoming". He will next join Earth's Mightiest Heroes in "Avengers: Infinity War", which is due May 4, 2018. The friendly neighborhood web slinger will be back for a second solo movie on July 5, 2019. After "Spider-Man: Homecoming 2", he might leave Marvel Cinematic Universe.
