AceShowbiz - Amazon's upcoming fantasy series "Carnival Row" has found its female lead. The miniseries has tapped "Suicide Squad" and "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" star %cCara Delevingne% to headline the series alongside %cOrlando Bloom%.
On the Neo-Victorian series, Cara is set to play Vignette Stonemoss, a faerish refugee who flees her war-torn homeland to come to the Burgue. There, she must contend not only with rampant human prejudice against her kind but with the secrets that have followed her to this new land.
Set in a city called Burgue, "Carnival Row" will feature mythical creatures who have fled their war-torn homeland and gathered in the city as tensions are simmering between citizens and the growing immigrant population. At the center of the drama is the investigation of a string of unsolved murders, which are eating away at whatever uneasy peace still exists.
Orlando will take the role of police inspector Rycroft Philostrate. While investigating the murder of a faerie showgirl. Rycroft is not supposed to care about the death of another faerish refugee, but he does, and getting to the bottom of what happened to her will come at a big cost.
First announced in May, "Carnival Row" will have eight episodes in its first season. The series marks both Cara and Orlando's first regular TV series roles. Cara will next be seen opposite %cAmber Heard% in "London Fields", and is currently filming "Life in a Year" with %cJaden Smith%.
Rene Echevarria ("Star Trek", "Teen Wolf") will write and executive produce the series with Travis Beacham ("Pacific Rim") writing the original script, "A Killing on Carnival Row". Meanwhile, Paul McGuigan ("Luke Cage", "Sherlock"), who will also executive produce alongside Rene, is set to direct. The one-hour series is slated to begin filming this fall, aiming at a 2019 release.
