On the 8-part fantasy series, the 'Troy' star will be playing Rycroft Philostrate, a police inspector investigating the murder of a faerie showgirl.

AceShowbiz - Orlando Bloom is heading to TV. "The Lord of the Rings" actor has landed a leading role on an upcoming Amazon drama series titled "Carnival Row", which got a straight-to-series order earlier this year.

The hour-long series is a "fantasy noir set in a neo-Victorian city." It will feature mythical creatures who have fled their war-torn homeland and gathered in the city as tensions are simmering between citizens and the growing immigrant population. At the center of the drama is the investigation of a string of unsolved murders, which are eating away at whatever uneasy peace still exists.

The "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" actor will portray Rycroft Philostrate, a police inspector investigating the murder of a faerie showgirl. Rycroft is not supposed to care about the death of another faerish refugee, but he does, and getting to the bottom of what happened to her will come at a big cost.

EP Travis Beacham takes to Twitter to share more details of Orlando's character on the 8-part series. It is revealed that the character is described as "a sharp-eyed, worldly investigator." He is "stalwart, principled, haunted in a way, and not without his share of secrets."

The role marks Orlando's first regular TV role. He previously starred on HBO's "Tour de Pharmacy" as well as made an appearance in one episode of Netflix's "Easy".

Orlando will serve as producer for "Carnival Row". Rene Echevarria will write and executive produce the series. Meanwhile, Paul McGuigan, who will also executive produce alongside Rene, is set to direct. "Carnival Row" is slated to begin filming this fall, aiming at a 2019 release.
