Vogue Arabia Receives Backlash for Choosing Bella Hadid as Cover Model

Readers are disappointed in the publication's decision to choose the 20-year-old model as the cover model as they feel there are a lot of Arab models who deserve it better.

AceShowbiz - Bella Hadid is very excited for Vogue Arabia's September issue, but readers are not impressed. The publication receives backlash from readers for choosing Bella as their cover model as they feel that there are a lot of Arab models who deserve it better.

Vogue Arabia takes to Instagram to share a photo of Bella striking an elegant pose for the camera. Photographed by legendary designer Karl Lagerfeld, she looks stunning in red long dress. Bella also wears a black wig that makes her look more mature.

Although the cover looks beautiful, readers are disappointed. "This is suppose to be vogue 'Arabia' ,there are so many talented and beautiful Arabic models who can do this cover, I hope you bring an Arabic woman next time," a commenter writes. Another adds, "So many gorgeous Arabic models, yet.... an unimpressive cover of a face we see everywhere."

Others feel that the publication chose the wrong model because Bella doesn't represent Arab, especially since she is only half-Palestinian and doesn't live in the Middle East. "This is called Vogue Arabia and the women on the cover do not represent Arabia whatsoever even though they have a half arab heritage they still represent and identify as a westerner," one of them explains.

Despite the backlash, Bella remains proud of the cover and addresses her family background on the photo-sharing platform. "I am so honored and proud to be on this cover of Vogue Arabia, not only to be shot by the one and only Karl, but specifically to represent and cherish my half-Palestinian blood from my father and his strong, loving, wonderful Arab side of my family," she captions a photo of her sporting a black coat and netted veil.

"This cover is in honor of my teta Khair Hadid, my family, and my Arab/Muslim friends out there," she continues. "Thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of the newest international Vogue and thank you Vogue Arabia for continuing to celebrate and accept all different cultures and customs the way we all should."
