Robert Downey Jr. Plans to Quit Playing Iron Man 'Before It's Embarassing'

The actor, who will reprise his role as the billionaire superhero for the eighth time in 'Avengers: Infinity War', has opened up about how much longer he's planning to play the Marvel character.

AceShowbiz - %cRobert Downey Jr.% has opened up about how much longer he's planning to play Tony Stark a.k.a. Iron Man in Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor, who first took on the role of the iconic superhero in 2008's "Iron Man" and will reprise the role for the eighth time in "Avengers: Infinity War", shared his thoughts in an interview with News Corp Australia Network.

"It's this cyclical thing," Robert told the news outlet. The 52-year-old actor added that he "could have said when the first 'Avengers' came out: 'It's never going to get any better than that. Everybody stop.' But to me it's always about people and opportunities, like the Russos ['Avengers' directors Anthony and Joe Russo], who I adore."

"Everyone says to me it's like a glove that fits so well," he shared. "I have to start over every time but I am starting over with a pretty solid base. I just never want to blow it for the last six or seven [MCU movies] I have done by dropping the ball because I decided to go do it one more time. I just want to hang up my jersey before it's embarrassing."

Fans can see Robert portraying Iron Man in "Spider-Man: Homecoming", which hits theaters across the nation on July 7. Meanwhile, "Avengers: Infinity War" is set to be released next year on May 4. In the upcoming "Avengers" movie, he will star alongside %cBenedict Cumberbatch% (Doctor Strange) and %cChris Hemsworth% (Thor) among others.
