FOX has decided not to renew "24: Legacy" for a second season, despite investing heavily in the reboot of "24" by premiering it after the Super Bowl this year. However, it doesn't mean that the franchise will be over as the network is going to re-develop the franchise for a "new version."
The network is reportedly in talks with producers Howard Gordon and Brian Grazer for a new anthological take on the franchise. It will be built around "24" famous real-time storytelling format. The new version reportedly will have a refreshed cast, meaning it won't bring back "Legacy" stars including Corey Hawkins and Jimmy Smits.
"24" ran for eight seasons on the network before being revived with original star Kiefer Sutherland on "24: Live Another Day". The series was later followed by "24: Legacy", which revolved around Hawkins' character in a new story.
"24: Legacy" debuted with 17.6 million viewers. It marked the highest viewership in the franchise's history yet the lowest post-Super Bowl program viewership since 2003's "Alias". However, ratings dropped significantly with each passing week. "24: Legacy" wrapped its 12th and final episode with only 3.3 million viewers and a 0.8 rating among adults in the 18-49 demo.
Gordon and Grazer executive produced the series alongside Evan Katz, Manny Coto, Stephen Hopkins, Robert Cochran, Jon Cassar and Sutherland.
