'X-Men' Spin-Off 'New Mutants' Casts Anya Taylor-Joy and Maisie Williams

The 'Split' actress and the 'Game of Thrones' star will join the spin-off to play characters named Magik and Wolfsbane respectively.

AceShowbiz - "Split" star Anya Taylor-Joy and "Game of Thrones" actress Maisie Williams will star in Fox's long-awaited "X-Men" spin-off "X-Men: The New Mutants". The ensemble young adult superhero movie will be directed by Josh Boone ("The Fault in Our Stars", "Stuck in Love").

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Taylor-Joy will play Magik, a sorcerer who uses teleportation discs to travel. She is also the sister of Colossus, a mutant who appeared in "Deadpool". Meanwhile, Williams will play Wolfsbane, "a girl struggling to reconcile her religious beliefs with her power to turn into a wolf."

Besides directing, Boone writes the script along with Knate Lee. Simon Kinberg and Karen are producing, with the movie being set to start its production in early July.

"New Mutants", which is the first "X-Men" comics spin-off, was created by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod. "New Mutants" movie will center on the adventures of a group of teens with different nationalities, which include Native American Danielle Moonstar, Scots Wolfsbane, Brazilian Sunspot, a Kentuckian code-named Cannonball and Russian Magik. There will also be an alien named Warlock in the mix.

Taylor-Joy broke out as the star of period horror movie "The Witch" in 2015. She also starred in M. Night Shyamalan's thriller hit "Split" and will return for its sequel "Glass". Meanwhile, Williams is best known for her role as Arya Stark on HBO's "Game of Thrones".

"New Mutants" is scheduled to be released on April 13, 2018.
