The eighth installment of the 'Fast and Furious' movie series still led the competition by gaining an estimated $38.7 million from 4.329 locations.

AceShowbiz - "The Fate of the Furious" topped North American box office again in its second weekend. Despite dropping 61 percent in domestic earnings, the eighth installment of the "Fast and Furious" movie series still led the competition by gaining $38.4 million from 4.329 locations. Internationally, the movie starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Vin Diesel and Charlize Theron nabbed a massive $745 million, bringing its worldwide cume to $908.3 million to date.

"The Boss Baby" stayed in the second place in its third weekend, gaining $12.7 million domestically. "Beauty and the Beast (2017)" sat on No. 3 with $9.6 million. Newcomer *"Born in China" from Disneynature nabbed $5.1 million in its first weekend, while *"Going in Style" rounded out the top five by gaining $5 million.

Meanwhile, "Unforgettable" and "The Promise" didn't make a very good start. "Unforgettable", which starred Katherine Heigl and Rosario Dawson, seemingly slipped the audiences' mind and only earned $4.8 million from 2.417 theaters. According to Warner Bros. president of domestic distribution Jeff Goldstein, the drama thriller "just didn't resonate with the intended audience."

"The Promise" starring Christian Bale and Oscar Isaac also flopped despite a social media push from big stars such as Leonardo DiCaprio, the Kardashian sisters and Cher. The drama set during the Armenian Genocide only earned an estimated $4.1 million in its opening weekend. Open Road's president of marketing Jonathan Helfgot, though, suggested that the mission of the movie was not purely box office-related.

"It was about bring the world's attention to this issue," said Helfgot. "And looking at the amount of conversation...it's undeniable that there's been more focus and attention in the past two weeks than the past hundred years since the atrocity took place," he added.
