Although the show hasn't been renewed for a fourth season, executive producer of "American Crime" gives away a little tidbit of its season 4 should ABC renew the anthology series. During Deadline's The Contenders Emmy Event on Sunday, April 9, Michael McDonald said that possible season 4 would be tackling women in the workplace, continuing show's tradition to tackle hyper-relevant themes of issues like race, sexual orientation and consent.

"There is a story that we want to tell," he said. "Seeing what's happening on 'Fox News' and what's happening with Uber, you're seeing the role that women play in the workforce," McDonald continued, referring to Billy O'Reilly's recent sexual harrasment scandal.

However, regarding the fact that ABC has yet to give the series a green-light for a fourth season, McDonald admitted that things wouldn't be that easy to get the idea come true. He opened up, "Unfortunately with broadcast television it's very hard to get an audience-our audience may not be there right now."

While that may disappoint fans, the fact there is no word yet for a season 4 renewal may appear to be a realistic choice for some people. The series gains a widely appraised critical claim, though it never has high ratings. "American Crime" was averaging 4.98 million viewers per episode during its freshman season and decreased to 3.72 million each week during its second season. The current season 3 premiere reportedly drew in only 2.67 million.
