The CW has found its Black Lightning in Cress Williams. The Hollywood Reporter learns that the "Hart of Dixie" alum is set to portray the titular superhero in the upcoming TV adaptation of DC comic book series which originally landed on FOX before moving to The CW.

The show will revolve around a man named Jefferson Pierce who is forced to come out of his retirement as a vigilante due to a daughter hell-bent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang. It is expected to be the first black superhero series on traditional television.

Greg Berlanti, the producer of various DC TV series like "Arrow", "The Flash", "Supergirl" and "DC's Legends of Tomorrow", is shepherding the show. The script is written by husband-and-wife duo Salim Akil and Mara Brock Akil ("The Game", "Being Mary Jane").
