The former 'Dexter' star and the 'Quarry' actress are cast as John F. Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy respectively, who will pay a visit to Netflix's royal period series in season 2.

AceShowbiz - Netflix's "The Crown" boasts a stellar cast by adding new cast members to play President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jackie Kennedy in season 2. Michael C. Hall will play John F. Kennedy on the Golden Globe and SAG Award-winning series. The former "Dexter" actor will star opposite Jodi Balfour, who is cast as Jackie Kennedy.

"The Crown" reportedly will highlight Kennedy's jealousy over her wife's popularity in the second season. Eventually, his jealousy emerges in the form of anger and manipulation. The Kennedys will play a large part in the season 2, which has begun its production.

The hit English drama's sophomore season will dial back to 1960s when Queen Elizabeth II's soldiers fight in an illegal war in Egypt. It will feature the downfall of the third Prime Minister, Harold Macmillan, in scandal and disgrace. The second season will also depict the revolutionary era of the 1960s, thus the Kennedys will make an appearance.

Balfour will join the list of actresses who have portrayed Jackie Kennedy, including Natalie Portman ("Jackie"), Katie Holmes ("The Kennedys"), Ginnifer Goodwin ("Killing Kennedy") and Jeanne Tripplehorn ("Grey Gardens").

"The Crown" is produced by Sony Pictures TV's Left Bank Pictures. It won Best Drama Series and Claire Foy received Best Actress award for her performance as the Queen Elizabeth II at Golden Globe Awards last month. Foy and John Lithgow, who plays Winston Churchill, also nabbed SAG Awards for their performances on the series.

Series creator Peter Morgan told reporters at Golden Globe Awards backstage that the sophomore season would end in 1964 era. "We leave behind a certain kind of Britain and we enter a new Britain," he said. He added that he had planned six seasons for the series, and the main roles would be re-cast to fit the characters' age. He said, "At the end of season 2, we will have to start thinking about a new cast because our cast will reach a limit about what they can play."

The series also adds Matthew Goode to the cast as the husband of Princess Margaret (Vanessa Kirby), Lord Snowden, in season 2. No premiere date is set just yet for the second season.
