"American Idol" is on the road to resurrection already. Getting canceled last year after 15 seasons, the singing competition originally airing on FOX is currently in negotiations to relocate to NBC for a fresh start.
According to Variety, the "Idol" producer Fremantle has been pitching the revival to some networks in recent weeks, and NBC comes out as a frontrunner. The Peacock now is reportedly mulling over ideas on how to integrate the show into its programming slate.
"American Idol" began in 2002 and has vaulted the likes of Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks, Adam Lambert and Jennifer Hudson to stardom. Hosted by Ryan Seacrest, it featured the panel of judges that included Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson, Ellen DeGeneres, Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr., Keith Urban and Steven Tyler over the years.
NBC also has its own singing competition. "The Voice" kicked off in 2011 with the panel of judges that includes Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera, Cee-Lo Green, Shakira, Usher, Gwen Stefani, Pharrell Williams, Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys. It usually has two cycles a year. Will it be cut down to one cycle to make a room for the new "American Idol"?
