'Deadpool', 'La La Land' and 'Moonlight' Are Nominated for 2017 PGA Awards

'Deadpool' comes as a big surprise among the nominees, while award contenders such as 'Silence', 'Jackie' and 'Sully' are overlooked.

AceShowbiz - After its big victory at the 2017 Golden Globe Awards, "La La Land" scores a nomination at the upcoming Producers Guild of America Awards. The Damien Chazelle-directed musical is vying for the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures alongside "Deadpool", "Moonlight", "Manchester by the Sea", "Hell or High Water", "Lion", "Hacksaw Ridge", "Hidden Figures", "Fences" and "Arrival".

Meanwhile, "Silence", "Jackie", "Sully", "Loving", "Captain Fantastic", "Nocturnal Animals", "20th Century Women" and "Florence Foster Jenkins" are overlooked by PGA voters, despite they're being award contenders.

"Deadpool", an anti-superhero movie adapted from comic book with the same name, comes as a big surprise among the nominees. Producer Simon Kinberg says, "We are beyond thrilled and humbled by this honor." He adds, "We really wanted to make something that broke all the rules, and somehow we didn't get punished for it."

"Finding Dory", "Kubo and the Two Strings", "Moana", "The Secret Life of Pets" and "Zootopia" are nominated in Outstanding Producer of Animated Theatrical Motion Pictures category. Previously, PGA announced nominees for feature length documentary, which include "Dancer", "The Eagle Huntress", "Life Animated", "O.J.: Made in America" and "Tower".

PGA will also honor Tom Rothman with Milestone Award, James L. Brooks with Norman Lear Achievement Award in Television, Irwin Winkler with David O. Selznick Achievement Award in Theatrical Motion Pictures, "Loving" with Stanley Kramer Award and Megan Ellison with Visionary Award.

The 2017 PGA Awards will be held on January 28 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.
