The Academy Award-winning actor says that he's open to playing Rustin Cohle for the second time.

AceShowbiz - Matthew McConaughey is definitely down for another season of "True Detective". The actor talked about reprising his role as Rustin Cohle in a possible third installment of the series when he stopped by "The Rich Eisen Show".

"You essentially said you wanted to play Rust Cohle when you saw the script," host Rich Eisen said. "You were originally going to go for the part of Marty (Woody Harrelson) and then you were like, 'This guy Rustin Cohle really speaks to me.' " McConaughey agreed, "Can't wait to hear what comes out of his mouth."

Eisen then brought up a previous conversation he had with the actor during which McConaughey was asked about the possibility of him returning as Rustin Cohle if he's given the opportunity. "Last time you were on the show, Matthew... I asked you at the time, 'Well, what about maybe doing it again?' and you said, 'That's a possibility.' Has that ball been advanced any further down the field since we last spoke?" Eisen asked.

McConaughey answered, "That conversation you and I had caught wings because I hear that all the time now." The actor added, "That ball's not advanced at all. I've talked to the creator Nic Pizzolatto, who's taking a little break from it. But again, if that thing was written well and it came up again, I wouldn't hesitate for a second." He admitted, "I'm open to it for sure."

McConaughey didn't return for season 2 of the anthology series which had its own self-contained story and focused on a disparate set of characters. The second season featured an all-star cast including Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch and Vince Vaughn.
