Freeform has given a series order to a new scripted comedy called "Alone Together". The show hails from The Lonely Island, a music group consisting of "Saturday Night Live" veterans Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer.

"Alone Together" stars Esther Povitsky ("Crazy Ex-Girlfriend") and Benji Aflalo ("Not Safe with Nikki Glaser"). The two will play platonic best friends who want nothing more than to be accepted by the vain and status-obsessed culture. Despite their sometimes contentious relationship, when push comes to shove, they've got each other's back... as they have nobody else to hang out with.

Freeform's Karey Burke said in a statement, "We are so proud of this series as it perfectly embodies the evolving Freeform brand and our dedication to programming for the 20-something viewer. Our audience will quickly fall in love as we did with real-life best friends Esther and Benji, who navigate a world of perfect 10s as self-proclaimed 6s."

Povitsky and Aflalo serve as writers alongside Eben Russell ("Girl Boss"). They will executive produce the series with new Hulu executive Billy Rosenberg, Hunter Covington and Samberg. Meanwhile, Daniel Gray Longino ("Lady Dynamite") directed the pilot featuring guest appearances from Chris D'Elia ("Undateable") and Jim O'Heir ("Parks and Recreation").
