The first trailer for Survival Pictures' war film "The Promise" has arrived. The newly-released video sees Oscar Isaac's Michael and Christian Bale's Chris going up against the Ottoman Empire-instigated Armenian genocide in the 1910s.

The intense video opens with Charlotte le Bon's Ana asking Michael to tell her about Constantinople. "It can be magical," he says. "Just like any great city." One scene shows her telling Michael, "You make me feel like I'm home," before the pair and Chris get stuck in the war-torn city.

Set during the last days of the Ottoman Empire, which was dissolved in 1922 following the Armenian Genocide of 1915, the upcoming romance follows a love triangle between Michael, a brilliant medical student, the beautiful and sophisticated Ana, and Chris, a renowned American journalist based in Paris.

"The Promise" is directed by "Hotel Rwanda" helmer George Terry from a screenplay he co-wrote with Robin Swicord ("The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"). It is supported by Shohreh Aghdashloo, Angela Sarafyan, Jean Reno, James Cromwell, Daniel Giminez Cacho and Marwan Kenzari. The film will have its premiere on Sunday, September 11 at this year's Toronto International Film Festival.
