Led Zeppelin came out as the winner in the copyright infringement lawsuit over their hit "Stairway to Heaven". After a week-long trial, an eight-member Los Angeles jury determined on Thursday, June 23 that the rockers' classic wasn't a rip-off of Spirit's song "Taurus".

"We are grateful for the jury's conscientious service and pleased that it has ruled in our favor, putting to rest questions about the origins of 'Stairway to Heaven' and confirming what we have known for 45 years," the iconic band's Jimmy Page and Robert Plant said in a statement following the decision. "We appreciate our fans' support and look forward to putting this legal matter behind us."

The group's record label Warner Music also commented on their win in a statement. "We are pleased that the jury found in favor of Led Zeppelin, reaffirming the true origins of 'Stairway to Heaven', " the company wrote. "Led Zeppelin is one of the greatest bands in history, and Jimmy Page and Robert Plant are peerless songwriters who created many of rock's most influential and enduring songs."

Led Zeppelin was accused of stealing part of Spirit's "Taurus" for the intro of their "Stairway to Heaven". According to the lawsuit filed in May 2014 by Michael Skidmore, a trustee for the late Spirit guitarist Randy Wolfe a.k.a. Randy California's estate, the two bands occasionally toured together between1968 and 1970 and Led Zeppelin's Plant must have heard about "Taurus" before writing "Stairway to Heaven".

Plant, however, denied the allegation while testifying in court a few days ago. At the time, he said under oath that he didn't remember the song "Taurus" and didn't recall performing with Spirit at all. "I didn't remember it then, and I don't remember it now," he stated.
