AceShowbiz - Former "The Voice" contestant Christina Grimmie was shot after a concert in Orlando on Friday night, June 10, authorities have confirmed. The 22-year-old singer and pop/punk band Before You Exit were signing autographs and selling merchandise after their show at the Plaza Live Theater when a man walked up to her and shot her, said Orlando Sgt. Wanda Miglio in a news conference.
After opening fire at Grimmie, the shooter was tackled by her brother before he shot himself. Grimmie was taken to the Orlando Regional Medical Center and is currently in critical condition, while the suspect died. No one else was reported injured in the incident.
Vegan hot dog salesman Josh Call told the Orlando Sentinel that he went inside the venue after the shooting and saw a woman with blood coming from her head and a man in a pool of blood. The shooter, who was not identified, had two guns in his possession. It's not clear what his motive was or whether he and Grimmie knew each other.
Grimmie, who started out performing on YouTube, finished third on NBC's "The Voice" season 6 in 2014. She has also performed backup vocals for Selena Gomez & the Scene.
#PrayForChristina has become a trending topic on Twitter after the incident, with Demi Lovato among those who pray for her survival. "Praying so hard for Christina Grimmie [praying hand emojis] please pray for her," she tweeted.
Sabrina Carpenter also tweeted, "I can't understand why someone spreading their gift and love gets this in return. I hope to God you are okay. Please #PrayForChristina."
