Mackenzie Davis Joins 'Blade Runner' Sequel

The 'Always Shine' actress joins the cast of the sequel to the 1982 sci-fi film.

AceShowbiz - Mackenzie Davis, who stars in "That Awkward Moment" and "Always Shine", has joined the cast of "Blade Runner" sequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The actress is also best known for her role as computer programmer Cameron Howe on TV series "Halt and Catch Fire". She additionally appeared in "The Martian" as NASA engineer Mindy Park.

Davis will star in Alcon Entertainment's "Blade Runner" sequel alongside Ryan Gosling. The cast also includes Dave Bautista, Ana de Armas, Carla Juri and Robin Wright. Harrison Ford will also return for the sequel.

Details about the untitled Blade Runner project have not been revealed yet, but it is known that the story takes place several decades after the ending of the original film. Ford will reportedly appear in the third act of the sequel as replicant hunter Rick Deckard.

The film will be directed by Dennis Villeneuve, who is best known for his work on thrillers "Prisoners" and "Sicario". Ridley Scott, who served as director in the original film, will serve as producer. Michael Green and writer of the original movie, Hampton Fancher, wrote the new screenplay based on Scott and Fancher's idea.

Principal photography is scheduled to begin in July. Warner Bros. will distribute the film in North America, while Sony will handle the release overseas through Columbia Pictures. The movie is set for an October 6, 2017 release.
