Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and More Returning for 'American Idol' Series Finale

AceShowbiz - A number of former "American Idol" contestants are set to bring the long-running singing competition to an end with a bang. FOX announced on Thursday, March 24 that Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood would be among those returning to the show for the very last time next month.

The two songbirds, which won the competion's first and fourth season respectively, are scheduled to perform on the show April 7. That night will also see appearances from Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks, David Cook, Kris Allen, Scotty McCreery, Nick Fradiani, Chris Daughtry, Clay Aiken, Jessica Sanchez, Kellie Pickler and Pia Toscano among others.

The last "Idol" winner will be announced on the same day. But before then, FOX is airing "American Idol: American Dream" on Tuesday, April 5. The 90-minute special will feature host Ryan Seacrest, the judges and the contestants sharing their personal memories.

The original line-up of judges which includes Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson will appear on the show as well. On Wednesday, the "Idol" finalists will perform live at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.

It won't be Clarkson's first time to appear on "American Idol" this season. She visited the show a few weeks ago to deliver an emotional performance of "Piece by Piece", the title track of her latest album.
