Series creator Lizzy Weiss announces via Twitter that the upcoming fifth season will be the last for the Freeform drama.

AceShowbiz - "Switched at Birth" is going to end its run after five seasons. It's series creator and executive producer Lizzy Weiss who broke the news via Twitter on Friday, March 11, writing, "This season of #SwitchedatBirth will be our final one. We are ending the show after an amazing 103 episodes with pride, love, and gratitude."

The fifth and now final season will debut this summer, but the exact premiere date has not been announced yet. A representative for Freeform (previously known as ABC Family) has confirmed the news of cancellation, saying that the 10-episode season will conclude with a special 90-minute finale. Filming on the final season is still underway and will last until April.

Starring Vanessa Marano and Katie Leclerc as two young girls who were swapped as newborns in a hospital mix-up, the drama has been a steady performer on the network. However, it may no longer be suitable for the recently rebranded cabler which steps away from family content and targets an older demographic.
