The Clooneys sit down with German Chancellor to offer their support regarding her open-door policy for people fleeing their war-torn countries.

AceShowbiz - George Clooney and his human-rights lawyer wife, Amal Alamuddin, met German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin. The couple was in town to promote the actor's new movie "Hail Caesar" which opened the Berlin International Film Festival.

George and Amal were joined by David Miliband, the former British foreign secretary who now heads International Rescue Committee. They talked about refugee crisis with the female leader, showing their support for her policy to open the door for asylum seekers.

"We talked about how NGOs and governments can work together when it comes to the reasons behind people fleeing their home countries, and how they can encourage people to get involved," Merkel said after the sit-down. "It was a very good discussion."

During "Hail Caesar" press junket before the meeting, George said he would be meeting with Merkel to "ask what we can help with." He praised Germany for "taking on a great responsibility," noting the increasing pressure the Chancellor faced for welcoming the refugees. "It's very difficult politically for her," the actor said.

When a reporter asked what's "concrete" things he's done to help the crisis, he snapped, "I spend a lot of time working on these things, so it's odd to have someone stand up and say, 'So, what do you do?' " The actor then fired back at the reporter, "I'd like to know what you are doing to help the situation."

Several movies including Syrian documentary "Houses Without Doors" were screened during the Berlinale. However, when it comes to Hollywood tackling the issues, George admitted it would take longer for them to touch the subject. "The unfortunate thing about the film community is we react to situations much more than we lead the way," he said.
