The 'Birdman' director gets emotional when it's announced he wins the Directors Guild of America award for the second time in a row.

AceShowbiz - Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu celebrated a big win at the Directors Guild of America Awards on Saturday, February 6 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles. He was named Best Director in a Feature Film, thanks to his latest flick "The Revenant" starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy.
It's the second time Inarritu won the coveted title after he grabbed it last year for "Birdman". This year, the Mexican director beat Tom McCarthy ("Spotlight"), Adam McKay ("The Big Short"), George Miller ("Mad Max: Fury Road"), and Ridley Scott ("The Martian").
Inarritu was overwhelmed with emotion as he collected the trophy over the weekend. Traditionally last year's winner was drafted to open the envelope but since Inarritu was nominated once again, Tom Hooper, who won the award in 2011 for "The King's Speech", was on hands to announce the winner instead.
"I never expected to win this award, truly," he said, choking back tears. "Tough men don't cry. That's what Ridley Scott said today, and he's right." He credited his late father for his success and dedicated the award to the Latin American community, "This hug, this embrace you're giving to me today is going to a whole country, a whole Latin American community in this country."
Another winner in movie category was Alex Garland. The English filmmaker brought home Outstanding Directorial Achievement of a First-Time Feature Film Director for his work "Ex-Machina". He beat Fernando Coimbra ("A Wolf at the Door"), Joel Edgerton ("The Gift"), Marielle Heller ("The Diary of a Teenage Girl"), and Laszlo Nemes ("Son of Saul").
