The singer, who's facing a year in jail if convicted, asks fans to walk by his side during the tough time.

AceShowbiz - For the first time since his arrest for bar brawl on January 13, Nick Carter issued a statement to explain his actions. The Backstreet Boys singer apologizes for behaving badly, saying he's not "perfect".

Carter was arrested on a misdemeanor battery charge after assaulting a bouncer at Hog's Breath Saloon in Florida. He and a man named Michael Papayans allegedly punched the bouncer while they were heavily intoxicated. Police were called and Carter and his friend were taken to Monroe County Detention Center in Key West. He was released the following day on $1,500 bail.

On Saturday, January 23, Carter took it to Twitter to address the arrest. "I am human and at times it can be a struggle to balance a healthy lifestyle. I'm not perfect and for that I am sorry," he wrote, adding "When we fall we have to get up and keep on walking. I hope you stay by my side and continue to walk with me."

The 35-year-old singer, who had struggled with drugs and alcohol abuse in the past, is facing a maximum sentence of one year in jail or one year of probation, plus a $1,000 fine, if convicted of battery. His arraignment is set for February 8.
