Syfy announced the series' renewal on Friday, November 6, saying it had become the network's most engaging series in social media.

"Z Nation" is here to stay. Syfy has renewed the zombie apocalypse drama series for a third season. The new wave of action is scheduled to premiere next year for 15 episodes.
"Z Nation" is in the middle of running its second season. It averages 1.5 million total viewers per episode (Live Plus 7) and has become Syfy's most social media-engaged original series.
"Z Nation" takes place three years after a zombie virus plagued the country. A group of people are transporting the only man known to have survived zombie bites to the last functioning viral lab in post-apocalyptic America. They hope to use his blood to create a cure for the virus.
The series stars Kellita Smith, DJ Qualls, Keith Allen, Anastasia Baranova, Russell Hodgkinson, Nat Zang and Matt Cedeno. Upcoming guest stars include Missi Pyle, Doug Jones, Anthony Michael Hall and Gina Gershon.
"Universal Soldier" writer-director John Hyams serves as a producer and director for most of the episodes. Karl Schaefer of "Eureka" serves as executive producer and showrunner.
