Nicki Minaj's Comedy Gets Series Commitment From ABC Family

The Harajuku Barbie will executive produce and appear on the untitled show based on her life in Queens, New York.

AceShowbiz - ABC Family picks up a Nicki Minaj comedy based on her life growing up in Queens, New York. The female rapper will serve as an executive producer and also appear on the show. It will film the pilot in her hometown this winter with the intention to continue to series.

Written by Kate Angelo ("Sex Tape"), the new scripted TV series will be based on "Minaj and her family's immigration from Trinidad in the early 1990s." It will revolve around her "vibrant family and the personal and musical evolution that led to her eventual rise to stardom."

"This is one of the more unique adventures I've ever embarked on," the Harajuku Barbie said of the untitled series in a statement. "I couldn't be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special."

"Nicki Minaj is a force to be reckoned with at everything she touches," said ABC Family's EVP Programming and Development Karey Burke. "Nicki is an international superstar, yet not everyone knows how inspiring and hilarious her true story is, and we can't wait to share it with the world."

Nicki made her acting debut in the romcom "The Other Woman" and shared screen with Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, and Kate Upton. She has also lent her voice to "Ice Age: Continental Drift". She will next be seen in "Barbershop 3".
